My School Habits
Does the child have their things with them, do they know their homework, and can they find their paper when they need it — order is taught, it is not inherited.
What it measures
What is most often read as carelessness in primary school is the absence of a system, not the absence of willingness. This tool separates the two, so the effort goes into a simple bit of ordering instead of repeated scolding that changes nothing.
How to read the result
Array
Before administering
Say to the child: "I am going to ask you about what usually happens in your week. Answer with what actually happens — nobody is going to scold you."
Its limits
A self-report by a child about their ordinary week, and it is affected by their recent memory. It does not measure ability and it does not measure achievement, and it is never read as a judgment on the child's home or on how busy their family is.
Its dimensions
- Being ReadyWhen high: Comes ready and knows the lessons of the day.
- HomeworkWhen high: Writes their homework down and finishes it at a fixed time.
- Order and PlaceWhen high: Their tools and papers have fixed places.
